Rules to know

A New York fishing license is required from age 16. On inland trout streams you can keep trout from April 1 to October 15 (5 a day, no more than 2 longer than 12 inches, on wild and stocked streams); from October 16 to March 31 it's catch-and-release with artificial lures only. Brown and rainbow trout in lakes and ponds are open all year. Many waters have special rules, so check DEC's freshwater fishing regulations for the exact water.
